Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X sometime in 2025. The game can be a demanding one, pushing the capabilities of current-gen consoles to their limits. The low-end Xbox Series S has encountered hardware bottlenecks when releasing new versions, and people are worried about whether the console can run GTA 6 smoothly. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has now downplayed those concerns, saying he’s “not worried” about GTA 6’s performance on Xbox Series S.
Take-Two has no worries about GTA 6 on Xbox Series S
During Take-Two’s FY2025 Q2 earnings call, Zelnick was asked if he was concerned about performance issues with GTA 6 on the Xbox Series S, considering it’s a “console with lower design specs” and the next Grand Theft Auto game will likely push “a lot of boundaries” technically.
“As long as consumers are there, we’ll support the platforms they’re on, and we’ve found a way to support the platforms, albeit at different technology levels. Our brand is really good at that,” Zelnick responded.
“I’m not really worried – I never worry about where the hardware is going, and I’ve said that many times over the years. Because, first of all, I don’t worry about things that I have zero control over
“Secondly, I do believe in the audience. If you have a great product, the audience will show up. So we just need to make sure that across a range of platforms, if one platform drops in value, there’s always another. So, for example, we’re seeing huge growth in PC right now.”
Zelnick said PCs will be an increasingly important part of the console business in the future, and supporting the platform won’t be complicated for Take-Two.
“So, the bottom line is, we are selective about the platforms we support. As long as we have the ability to make the technology work, and as long as the audience is large enough to make it worthwhile, we will make the technology work,” Zelnick concluded.
Two titles on PC
While the Take-Two boss talked about support for the PC platform, it’s worth noting that GTA 6 has yet to be confirmed for release on PC and will likely be delayed on the platform, just like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both games were released more than a year after their original release on consoles. Developer Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption on PC last month, more than 14 years after the game was first released on PS3 and Xbox 360.
During its second-quarter fiscal 2025 earnings call, Take-Two reiterated plans to release Grand Theft Auto 6 in the fall of 2025. The follow-up to the hugely successful Grand Theft Auto V has been approaching a year since its trailer was released in December 2024. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in the fictional American state of Leonidas, inspired by Florida, and will return to the iconic Vice City that appeared in previous entries in the series. The game doesn’t have a release date yet.
