New Delhi: India batting coach Sitamshu Kotak on Wednesday revealed that left-hand batsman Linku Singh will rejoin the Indian team in the evening.
“Rinku Singh will join the team tonight and he has returned home as his father is not well,” Kotak said at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, ahead of India’s must-win Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai on Thursday.
earlier, TOI had reported Rinku Singh returned home on Tuesday due to a family emergency.
Linku did not take part in India’s training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday, while the rest of the team was in the nets.
Rinku’s father Khanchand Singh was admitted in a hospital in NCR in a serious condition and the player had to rush back.
Linku’s sudden departure from training camp has raised doubts over the southpaw’s availability for India’s must-win Super Eights clash with Zimbabwe on Thursday.
A mediocre Rinku played just one game as India lost by 76 runs to South Africa in Ahmedabad, while he scored six runs in the group match against Netherlands in New Delhi.
Before that, he scored 11 goals against Pakistan, 1 goal against Namibia and 6 goals against the United States.
