Even if Hofstra is a solid midlevel opponent, the Syracuse Orange have no reason to lose to them at home in the Dome. There isn’t any.
It’s incomprehensible, inexcusable, but sadly not unbelievable.
This is what SU looks like.
Sure, they earned some goodwill a few weeks ago by beating No. 1 Tennessee.
But then they slipped past St. Joe’s with a poor performance, and Hofstra beat them on Saturday.
This is what the program looks like. Jim Boeheim’s final days were not easy. But since the Hall of Famer left the sidelines, there’s been nothing quite like the Orange player of yesteryear.

Syracuse fans are begging for it, hoping for it, praying for it.
But on the field, even though the recruits were highly ranked and the transfers were in demand, it somehow didn’t work out.
Syracuse probably should have lost to Monmouth and now it’s losing to Hofstra.
This view of X is correct:
While we’re on the subject, look at how frustrated Carmelo Anthony got when he got a call in the second half, in a game where the pressure gauge shouldn’t be this high:
Maybe that’s what it was like across Syracuse with arms wide open: What the hell is going on?
There will be all kinds of reasons to try and explain this. One would argue that the season is far from over and a quality win in ACC play could salvage the season.

Maybe this is true. Maybe the season isn’t over yet.
But Syracuse’s program is an empty shell. One season won’t change that.
Another Boeheim isn’t going to walk through that door. This won’t change overnight.
The Orange are in big trouble. Losing to Hofstra was just a reminder.
This once proud program is now mired in mediocrity. Will this change? That’s what Melo wanted to know with open arms.
