COSHOCTON — It was a tug-of-war on Feb. 3 between two teams with their eyes on the Class V East Tournament.
Then red-hot West Muskingum took down host Coshocton 70-57 at The Wigwam in Muskingum Valley League play against Small School.

Coshocton (8-10, 4-8 MVL-Small) led by four points with a minute left before halftime, but West (14-4. 9-3) hit 12 of 23 from beyond the arc and scored 28 of the next 37 points to take a 52-37 lead heading into the final quarter.
Coshocton cut the lead to six points with 2:30 left in the game, but it didn’t shrink when Kyle Porter hit a clutch 3-pointer on a power play from the baseline to extend the lead and seal the victory.

Porter scored a game-high 21 points on 4 of 5 three-point shots, Tavon Bennett had 16 points and 6 assists, Noah Morrison had 15 points, 4 assists and 3 steals, and Carter Smith scored 12 points on 5 of 9 shots. They made 12 of 21 three-pointers – Morrison was 5 of 9 – and dished out 14 assists.

Champ Haley had 20 points and seven rebounds, and JJ Herman added 16 points, six assists and four 3-pointers for Coshocton, which shot 48% from the field.
Zanesville 47, Johnstown 42: Ceejay Whitfield scored nine points in the second half as the host Blue Devils scored just 23 points through three quarters in a Licking County League crossover game at Winland Memorial Coliseum.
Zanesville (9-8, 5-5 LCL-Buckeye) also got eight points from Luca Wood and a 5-for-6 free throw performance from Quenelle Angler in the fourth quarter to take a 36-23 lead heading into the final frame.
Johnstown (12-3, 9-2 LCL-Cardinal) hit six 3-pointers in the second half, three of which came from Grayson Goodman.

Rosecrans 58, Sugar Grover Berne Union 31: The Cardinals went 6-11 on the road and conquered the Mid-State League Cardinal Division on 13-for-50 shooting.
Tyler Burnett, who had 16 points and 14 rebounds, was 4-for-5 from the free throw line, while Brodie Booth and Keon Harris combined for four 3-pointers and added 10 points for Rosecrans (11-5, 9-1 MSL-Cardinal), who remained in the division lead.
Owen Lambert scored 8 points and Rosecrans led 45-20 after three quarters.
John Glenn 85, Meadowbrook 62: Cooper Briggs and Stehl Bates scored 19 points and combined for nine of the Muskies’ 17 3-pointers to help the MVL win at Corral Field.

Brayden Davis scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and Ben Stam and C.J. Dolan added 14 for John Glenn (16-1, 12-1 MVL-Big), which led 59-39 after three quarters. Still one game ahead in the college standings.
Masyn Campbell scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Jake Burris added 15 points for Meadowbrook (5-12, 5-7 MVL-Small).
Philo 57, new Lex 54: The Panthers outscored the Electrics (8-9, 5-7 MVL-Small) 27-9 from beyond the arc, but that wasn’t enough in the MVL crossover game at the Power Plant.
Rusty Trout scored 6 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter, Cole Cash and KJ Phillip added 11 points for Philo, which led 38-28 and New Lakes continued to lead with six 3-pointers in the final frame.

Paul Stenson hit five 3-pointers in the second half, including three in the fourth quarter that included 20 points, while New Lakers’ Eli Stephens finished with 17 points and seven rebounds (3-14, 0-12 MVL-Small). Lane Ratliff had nine assists and Tanner Toth had six rebounds.
No. 69 Tam Coc, No. 39 River View: Ryan Lamonica continued his strong performance against the neighboring Black Bears in the MVL-Big School game in Dresden, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Colten Rolison and Oliver Baker scored 14 points, and Jack LaBoer scored 13 points on back-to-back three-pointers (11-8, 9-4). Tri-Valley led by 33 points and entered halftime with a 38-23 lead. Troy Patterson added 10 points, 6 assists and 4 steals.
Carter Wesney scored 17 points to lead Riverview (5-14, 4-8).

Sheridan 52, Morgan 41: Tyce Whiteman scored 15 points and Colin Mallernee added 14 as the Generals earned a win in an MVL-Big School road game at McConnelsville.
Sheridan (11-6, 10-2 MVL-Big) trailed John Glenn by one in the division and led just 34-29 entering the fourth quarter after leading 22-18 at halftime. But sophomore Graham Anderson, who played more minutes on the varsity team with Logan Russell out injured, scored eight of his nine points in the final quarter, including two 3-pointers.
Luke Coleman and Gavin Shriver scored 12 points, and Carson Hack scored all eight points in the third quarter for Morgan (4-13, 2-10).
Maysville 82, Crooksville 51: The Panthers won on the road in McCluney, winning their 16th straight game and remaining undefeated in the MVL-Small.

Highland 64, Ridgewood 25: The Generals lost to the mighty Eagles in an Inter Valley Conference and South Division game and finished with a 9-9 overall record and a 5-7 conference record.

women’s basketball
Maysville 42, Crooksville 39: Avery Daniels hit six 3-pointers for a game-high 22 points and the Panthers hit 8 of 11 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help MVL-Small School win on the road in McLuney.
Miley Fulkerson went 4-for-4 from the field and Lilah Jones went 3-for-5 from the field in the fourth quarter to hold off the Ceramics offense after the Panthers led 29-19 through three quarters.
Crooksville’s Mylee Davis scored 16 points and Lexi Van Meter scored 15 points, hitting 8 of 18 free throws and leading 24-3 on three-pointers.

Sangu 62, Morgan 49: Maddie Garber scored 19 of her season-high 27 points in the second half to help the Scots beat MVL-Big School at home.
Garber scored 12 points in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders by himself in the period. She ended up making three 3-pointers.
Emma Smith added 10 points and Reagan Lamonica eight for Tri-Valley; Mylie Williams added nine of her 18 points in the fourth quarter and Gianna Myers added 11 for Morgan.
West M 53, Riverview 31: Lyla Johnson and Teriauna Brandford led all scorers with 15 points, and the Tornadoes maintained control of the MVL Small School Division with a win at Luther Stover Gymnasium.
Riverview’s Kortnee Mickle scored 13 points and Regan Foster added 12 points.
