Super Bowl LV squads are set, and only one ex-Colts player will be competing

With dozens of Super Bowl teams already set, the Seattle Seahawks (14-3) will take on the New England Patriots (14-3) on Sunday, February 8 at 6:30 pm at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

As far as former Colts go, only senior linebacker Chad Muma will be playing on the biggest stage in two weeks. As part of this year’s final 53-man roster cuts, the Colts placed Muma, who was originally a 2022 third-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, off the league’s exempt list.

The 26-year-old linebacker has played in five games for Indianapolis this year and made five tackles (three solo).

He was waived in early November and then re-signed with the Colts’ practice squad. However, Muma was signed to the Patriots’ active roster in mid-December from the Colts’ Taxi Driver squad.

Since then, he has played 3 games for the Patriots and made 4 tackles to end the 2025 season.

Fortunately for Mumah, he recently left a team that just suffered a historic late-season collapse and ultimately missed the playoffs, and will now play in next month’s Super Bowl in this year’s AFC Champions League.

However, as expected, I will be rooting for the NFC Champion Seahawks.

While the long-standing rivalry with the Patriots isn’t what it once was, I don’t want to see the organization and the team’s longtime owner Bob Kraft or offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels win another game — at least I have to reasonably live with that. As for McDaniels, I assume the former Colts head coach will coach?

Joining him in New England is former Colts coach Justin Hamilton, the Patriots’ current cornerbacks coach and most recently the Indianapolis assistant defensive backs coach through 2024.

Notably, former Colts defensive assistant (2005) and associate head coach and defensive backs coach Leslie Frazier (2006) is now the Seahawks’ assistant head coach. Former Colts cornerback Neiko Thorpe (2016) is also a defensive assistant and defensive backs coach.

It is worth noting that in Week 15 of this year, the Colts almost defeated Seattle on the road, but in the final seconds, they lost the winning 56-yard field goal 16-18, almost completing a shocking upset.

Philip Rivers, 44, surprisingly hasn’t retired and hasn’t played a pro football game in nearly five years, and only practiced with his new Colts teammates a week before the game.
