CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Tommy Novak and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Yegor Zinakhov and Brian Rust also scored for Pittsburgh (24-14-11). The Penguins have scored in five straight games (3-0-2) and are 9-2-2 in their last 13 games. Stuart Skinner made 18 saves in his sixth win in seven starts to improve to 17-12-4. Skinner’s career record against the Flames is 6 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.

Penguins captain Sidney Crosby had the assist, extending his point streak to four games (two goals, five assists).
Egor Sharangovich scored for Calgary (21-24-5). Dustin Wolf stopped 21 times for his sixth loss in seven games. His record dropped to 15-20-2.
The Flames have scored just two goals in two games since trading defenseman Rasmus Andersen to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. At the time, Anderson ranked third on the team in scoring.
Malkin scored his 11th goal at 7:49 of the first period to give the Penguins a lead they never squandered.
Calgary got on the scoreboard with 3 seconds left in the second quarter when Zach Whitecloud’s point shot was blocked by Sharanggovich’s pants. Rust’s buzzer-beater 50 seconds into the third quarter restored Pittsburgh’s two-goal advantage.

Penguins guard Kris Letang (upper body) missed his first game of the season. Jake St. Ivani took his place and dished out two assists as Pittsburgh avenged a 2-1 home loss to the Flames 11 days ago.
The Flames’ Martin Pospisil made his first start of the season after being sidelined with a concussion. The 26-year-old Slovakian was recalled from the AHL on Tuesday after two games of practice. With Jonathan Huberdeau (lower body) injured, Pospisil takes up the spot to the left of Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee.
