Ahead of BYU’s NCAA Tournament appearance, Steve Young has confidence in BYU basketball coach and his “long-lost cousin,” Kevin Young.
BYU will face Texas in the first game of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. BYU head coach received a video message from former BYU quarterback Steve Young on Wednesday, which CBS Sports shared on social media.

Steve Young started by congratulating Kevin Young on a “great season” before letting him know he fully supports him.
“We support you 1000 percent as we embark on our journey to the ultimate championship and just want you to know that if anyone can do it, you can do it,” he said.
The Hall of Fame quarterback then praised Kevin Young’s leadership at BYU.
“Thank you so much for your leadership, not just in basketball, but how to do it in the Big 12 and how to compete. I think – I don’t know, I’ll follow you everywhere,” he said.
In a social media video, CBS Sports showed Kevin Young the message and got his reaction.

“It was great to hear from Steve Young,” he said.
He added that the two joked that they were “long-lost cousins in the Young family.” He said Steve Young has been supportive of him since he took over as BYU head coach in 2024.
“He’s a great guy. He’s been very important to me since I took this job,” he said.
Kevin Young said the message reminded him of the support he felt from BYU fans and alumni last season during BYU’s first NCAA tournament game, which ended in the Sweet 16.
“I didn’t really understand the importance of this tournament as it relates to the alumni base, the fan base, so having someone like Steve Young — and a lot of other famous alumni who are really excited to follow our team to the tournament — would be great if it gives us that extra motivation and pride in the university,” he said.
BYU will begin its NCAA Tournament on Thursday against the University of Texas at 5:25 pm EST. The game will be broadcast on TBS.
