Stephen A. Smith Unsurprisingly Takes Tom Brady’s Side In Viral Debate

Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went viral after being asked before Super Bowl X which team he would side with. Brady opted for a political answer, saying he “didn’t have a dog in the fight” even though he holds the Patriots record for most seasons with the franchise.

That sparked outrage from fans and former Patriots. Unsurprisingly, however, Brady has a pretty loud dog in his corner, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith.

Smith hadn’t really been a part of the Patriots team all season, even guaranteeing the Seattle Seahawks a Super Bowl victory when the game was called. His latest review of First Take is no exception.

“It would be nice if he was sitting there – for the Patriots faithful, for the team, for Mr. Kraft… it would be nice if he could say ‘I support the Patriots,'” Smith said. “But I don’t care at all that he doesn’t!

“People are walking around acting like they deserve to lose sleep.”

Smith cited Brady’s partial ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders and the fact that Brady worked for Fox during NBC’s Super Bowl broadcast, an argument that even made his co-host Shae Cornette raise his hands.

“It’s not a big deal,” Smith said. “Again, that would be great. If it were me, of course, I would be like, ‘Oh my gosh, I hope the Patriots win.'”

“But people walking around acting like it’s rude and they’re losing sleep? Calm down.”

Even if Smith is right and this stance is overblown, there will be a real rift among Patriots fans who will feel slighted by his comments. That at least legitimizes the conversation, doesn’t it?
