Stellar Blade Has Sold Over 1 Million Copies, Plans for PC Version Under Review: Report

Stellar Blade, the action-adventure game from debut studio Shift Up, has reportedly sold 1 million copies since its release in April. The developer revealed the news at an initial public offering (IPO) press conference on Tuesday. Shift Up also reportedly revealed that plans for a PC port of Stellar Blade, which launched as a PS5 exclusive, are currently under review.

Star Blade PS5 Sales

According to South Korea’s GameMeca (VGC), “Stellar Blade” is expected to have sold more than 1 million copies since its release on April 26. The media quoted Shift Up Chief Financial Officer Ahn Jae-woo as saying: “Since its release, it has ranked No. 1 in sales in major console markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom, and its cumulative sales are expected to exceed 1 million copies.”

Stellar Blade had sales of 15.7 billion won (roughly Rs. 943 million) in May, according to Shift Up’s security filings, but that revenue only represents the amount the studio received from publisher Sony.

Star Blade PC version

The developer also discussed plans for a PC version of Stellar Blade during the press conference. The game is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and is exclusive to PS5. “It was released as a PS5 exclusive, but the number of releases and activation levels on PS5 are not as high as those on PS4,” the report quoted the chief financial officer as saying. “Recently, the main consumers of AAA games have shifted to PC. We are currently reviewing the PC version of Star Blade, and if we launch a PC version, we expect the value of the IP to increase again,” he added.

Sony has been delaying the launch of its exclusive console games on PC by two years. Many popular first-party franchises, such as God of War and Spider-Man, have made their way to PC after periods of console exclusivity. Most recently, the PlayStation-exclusive Director’s Cut of Ghost of Tsushima launched on PC on May 16. The open-world action-adventure game went on to become PlayStation’s largest single-player game on Steam.

Therefore, after running exclusively on PS5, “Stellar Blade” is expected to finally land on the PC platform. However, Shift Up reportedly did not provide a PC release schedule for the game. The report quoted the studio’s chief financial officer as saying: “We are reviewing the PC version of Stellar Blade. Please understand that we cannot tell you exactly when or if it is because of our contractual relationship.”
