The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with former Minnesota Vikings passing game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Angelichio to become their next offensive coordinator, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday.
Angeliccio’s hiring could replace the Steelers’ primary trio of coordinators under new head coach Mike McCarthy. The team hired former Raiders DC Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator and is reportedly expected to hire Danny Crossman as special teams coordinator.

Angelgio, 53, joined the Vikings in 2022 under Kevin O’Connell and previously played for the Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers. The Vikings ranked in the top six in the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns in three of four seasons with the franchise.
McCarthy confirmed during his introductory press conference that he will call the game and “obviously be responsible for the offense,” although Angelicchio will have the official title of offensive coordinator.
However, there are still a lot of questions about what this offense might look like. With veteran Aaron Rodgers set to become a free agent next month, questions continue to loom over the team at the quarterback position, although it’s still possible he could return in 2026. Rodgers and McCarthy have a long-standing relationship, being together with the Green Bay Packers from 2006 to 2018.
While McCarthy said he “absolutely” wants Rodgers back next season, reports indicate that he was not hired to “lure” the veteran quarterback back to the Steelers in free agency.

While the quarterback is still up in the air, the Steelers will have several weapons returning to the offense this year, including veteran wide receiver DK Metcalf, acquired in a trade with the Seahawks last season, as well as tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington and running back Jaylen Warren. The team has also made a concerted effort to rebuild the offensive line in recent years.
