Steelers receive good news on Derrick Harmon’s Week 16 injury status

The Pittsburgh Steelers received significant injury news regarding their first-round pick DE Derrick Harmon in Week 16, courtesy of HC Mike Tomlin.

According to an encouraging update from Tomlin on Tuesday, Hammon appears to be preparing for his return in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions after missing the past three games with a knee injury.

“We’ve got a few guys who missed the last game, or a few games, and are working their way back in. The top one is probably Derrick Harmon,” Tomlin told reporters. “He may be healthy enough to play last weekend, but as a young guy with limited rep opportunities, I don’t think it’s fair to him or us to put him in a uniform.”

Harmon, who was selected with the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, had 42 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 sack, and 4 quarterback hits in 9 games, missing 5 games due to injury.

Hammon’s introduction will be huge for Pittsburgh’s run defense in Week 16, as the Lions’ dangerous one-two punch at RB in Jameer Gibbs and David Montgomery, coupled with a top-five offensive line, could cause the Steelers a major problem on Sunday.
