Stark County is under a tornado watch until 8 p.m. Saturday, NWS says

Tornado warnings were issued for several Ohio counties Saturday afternoon, including Starke.

Alert means conditions are conducive to tornado development and people should remain vigilant and prepared for the possibility of severe weather. This does not mean a tornado has been observed.

The watch will remain in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

Stark County is the only regulated county in the Akron area.

However, thunderstorms are possible in Summit County this afternoon with wind gusts as high as 32 mph. According to the weather department, showers will continue until 1 am on Sunday.

Tornado warnings were also issued for areas in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York state.

The weather service warned that strong to severe storms are possible in the Akron area on Saturday as a cold front moves through Northeast Ohio. This includes potentially damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

The storm is expected to begin developing Saturday afternoon and end on Sunday. Skies are expected to be mostly clear Sunday with temperatures in the high 50s.
