Spring training is four days away!
The Brewers will play their penultimate game in Arizona this afternoon (excluding an extra spring breakout game tomorrow) when they take on the San Diego Padres at American Family Field in Phoenix. For Milwaukee, Robert Gasser gets one last chance to impress Brewers decision-makers. For San Diego, Randy Vazquez will man the mound.

Gasser still has a good chance to compete for an early-season rotation spot, but it won’t be because of his performance in the spring. In 6 1/3 innings in three appearances, Gasser allowed seven runs, all earned, on nine hits and three walks. It’s nice to see Gasser with a sub-9.95 ERA today, as he does have a chance to get some time in the Brewers’ rotation to start the season; with Quin Priest injured and Brandon Woodruff slowing down, the opportunity is there. There will be a bunch of lefties in action today, with Aaron Ashby and DL Hall also set to play, as will Easton McGee.
Milwaukee has an interesting outfield lineup today, with Brandon Lockridge, Garrett Mitchell and Jackson Jolio from left to right. Jake Bauers is at first base today, Andrew Vaughn handles DH duties, and Brice Turang, Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton round out the infield duties. William Contreras caught the ball and batted to third.
Today’s roster comes as no surprise: Reese McGuire has exercised his opt-out clause and became a free agent. For one week, McGwire looked like he had a real chance to be the Brewers’ backup catcher, but when they brought in Gary Sanchez on a major league deal, McGwire shut down any route that didn’t involve an injury to Sanchez or Contreras. He also had a rough spring, hitting just .103. I wish McGuire all the best.
