CLEVELAND (WJW) — After more than a decade operating at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, Spirit Airlines has reportedly decided to cease all flights in and out of the city.

An airport spokesperson confirmed to FOX 8 Thursday that the change will occur on April 15.

“CLE remains committed to maintaining strong airline partnerships and driving air service growth to support connectivity in the region,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The move comes as the airline “continues to restructure its route network”.

Those traveling on upcoming Spirit flights should contact the airline for alternative flight options/refunds, as the airport is reportedly unable to make any of these changes for passengers.

The airport did not say whether the change would affect any jobs. Earlier this week, the company said it expected to exit Chapter 11 bankruptcy later this year.

Spirit Airlines issued the following statement to FOX 8 regarding the change:

As part of our ongoing restructuring, we will continue to optimize our network to focus on our strongest routes. In line with this process, we have made the difficult decision to cease service in Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) effective April 14, 2026, and in Cleveland (CLE) effective April 15, 2026. Additionally, we will transition to winter seasonal service in Key West (EYW) starting May 5, 2026. We apologize for any inconvenience and will contact customers whose travel plans are affected to advise them of their options. As we move forward, we will continue to align our network and capacity with routes and periods of strongest consumer demand.

Spirit Airlines offers nonstop flights from Cleveland to Fort Lauderdale (other stops were discontinued last year).
