Social media users swoon over Burbank police officer in viral Instagram post

It’s unclear if the Burbank Police Department expected the reaction to one of its recent Instagram posts, but it has certainly taken off.

BPD released a photo of one of their members, Officer Parks, on February 13 when he encountered a pair of French bulldogs while calling for service.

“He couldn’t help but pet, hold and take photos with them!” the department said in the post’s caption. “Police love dogs.”

However, what started out as a routine cute photoshoot quickly turned into something else, as social media users flocked to the comments section to comment not on the Frenchmen – one of whom was being held by Officer Parks and another who appeared to be urinating behind him – but on Officer Parks himself.

As of Tuesday morning, the post had more than 200,000 likes. For context, the BPD’s Instagram post about Officer Parks, a job posting, had less than 100 views. More than 3,000 people commented on the post, most of which took aim at Officer Parks’ appearance.

The most liked ones are all very creative:

“I just lost my dog in Burbank and am asking for help from Officer Parks,” one person said.

“Can Officer Parks submit to a completely professional and absolutely necessary pat-down?” asked another.

A third said: “If Officer Park wants to pick me up too, I’ll think I’m a dog.”

Some even accuse themselves of (hopefully) false crimes in the hope that Officer Parks will respond.

“I stole $2,000 worth of items from Target. I dare you to arrest me, I’m in the parking lot next to the third light pole behind my black Honda,” one user quipped.

Another man said: “I have committed a crime, please come and arrest me.”

Some users opted for other humorous comments.

“No one is looking at that cat,” one person said.

Another said: “No, you left out his name but not his phone number. That’s both wrong.”

The police department apparently took note of the virality, liking several comments about Officer Parks’ appearance, including “This cop is here for the people, for looks!” and “Oh, he’s in handcuffs” — as well as another post from a user who said the comments section left them “in tears.”

It’s unclear what Officer Parks made of the information.
