When it comes to protein bars, I have two top picks: Clear Labs and Dark Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter with Sea Salt Perfect Bars. Since Costco doesn’t sell Clear Labs chocolate bars (although if anyone from either company is listening, I’d be happy to see them in the warehouse), I usually end up with a Perfect Bar in my shopping cart.
Yes, they are higher in calories than many other protein bars, but I love the ingredient list and how filling they really are. They’re made from whole food ingredients and have a rich, almost cookie dough-like texture that feels more like a treat than a “protein bar.”
They do need to be stored in the refrigerator to stay fresh long-term, but they can keep in your purse or backpack for up to a week. Please note: they will soften quickly. Personally, I think they’re perfect after sitting in my work bag all morning and enjoying them as an afternoon snack.
Depending on the flavor, Perfect Bars contain 3 to 4 grams of fiber and 12 to 13 grams of added sugar (from honey), so they’re a little sweeter than some other options – but for me, the flavor and staying power make it worth it.
PS Costco now sells Mini Perfect Bars, which contain 5 grams of protein and 120 to 150 calories. They’re not particularly filling on their own, but they make a great choice for afternoon tea or can easily be added to yogurt, fruit or vegetables for a light, low-calorie snack.
