The Canadian captain suffered a triple blow that ended with him sliding without putting weight on his right leg.

The problem actually seemed to be Crosby trying to dodge one of the blows, which caused his right leg to extend in an awkward direction.

Initially, as he walked to the bench, trainers checked on him because he was doubled over in pain.

Minutes later, the broadcast showed Crosby limping toward the locker room.

It was an extremely painful incident for Team Canada, which was trailing 2-1 early in the second period when the injury occurred.

Canada has one major saving grace, at least logistically. Olympic hockey rosters allow for two more skaters than during the NHL season, meaning 13 forwards will suit up for Team Canada on Wednesday.

They can still field four evenly assembled lineups with three forwards per team.

Of course, none of them will have Crosby, one of the greatest players in history.

Crosby is also Canada’s first superpower, which could be important in trying to mount a comeback.
