William Nylander scored for Toronto. Dennis Hilderby made 35 saves after being recalled by the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Toronto went 32-36-14, securing a bottom-five finish that would allow it to retain its first-round pick in the upcoming draft. The Maple Leafs are 0-6-1 in their last seven games.

Midway through the third quarter, Nylander hit a backhand shot of a bouncing puck past Reimer to make it 2-1.

Basson opened the scoring in the first period with his 33rd goal of the season. Fogler made it 2-0 late in the second quarter.
