When the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder take the court Thursday night, there’s already a lot on the line. This could be the ultimate Finals matchup, but the stakes are higher for Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
Gilgeous-Alexander stepped up and set a new NBA record, scoring at least 20 points in his 127th consecutive game. With this performance, Gilgeous-Alexander surpassed NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 126 games, which was tied by Gilgeous-Alexander on Monday.

For Gilgeous-Alexander, that streak dates back to the beginning of the 2024-25 NBA season. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 18 points in a win over the San Antonio Spurs on October 30, 2024, and scored 30 points two nights later. This proved to be the beginning of his record-breaking streak.
Since then, the Thunder star has scored at least 20 points in every game he’s played in, often exceeding that mark with ease.
With that record now in the past, here are some fun facts about Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak:
• Gilgeous-Alexander has scored exactly 20 points only twice during his scoring streak. He most recently suffered an abdominal injury in February that caused him to miss the next nine games. The other game in which he scored 20 points occurred in January, when the Thunder beat the Houston Rockets 111-91.

• Gilgeous-Alexander has scored between 30 and 39 points 62 times in a row, scored between 40 and 49 points 13 times, and scored 50 or more points five times.
• He scored 50 points in four of just 19 games last season. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 54 points against the Utah Jazz on January 22, 2025, and between March 3 and March 3, 2025, he scored more than 50 points three times.
• His highest score during the streak was 55 points, which he scored in a double-overtime win over the Indiana Pacers in October.
During his eight-year NBA career, Gilgeous-Alexander lived up to his reputation as the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. After finishing sixth in Rookie of the Year voting, Gilgeous-Alexander continued to develop his game, eventually reaching perennial MVP contender status.

Gilgeous-Alexander was an All-Star in each of the previous three seasons and was named to the All-Pro First Team in each season. He also finished in the top five for the MVP award three times during this period, winning the award for the first time last year.
With another outstanding performance, he once again ranks among the MVPs in the 2025-26 NBA season.
With Gilgeous-Alexander once again looking like the best player in the NBA, the Thunder find themselves firmly atop the Western Conference. After winning the championship last season, the team seemed poised to make the playoffs again.
