As cold temperatures persist in central Ohio, some schools in the area have canceled or postponed classes on Jan. 20.

The National Weather Service has issued a cold weather warning for much of central Ohio, including Columbus, from 7 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Day until 10 a.m. on January 20. Temperatures plummeted to -8 degrees throughout the Fourth of July holiday, and the National Weather Service warned of wind chills as low as -15 degrees.

The alert covers Franklin, Union, Delaware, Madison and Licking counties, as well as other portions of west-central Ohio and east-central Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to drop slightly after the holidays on January 20, with a high near 22 degrees and sunny weather expected. But wind chill values ​​are expected to remain below zero, as low as -3. Temperatures may return to above freezing on January 21st.
