Before Davis Webb was promoted to offensive coordinator, the Denver Broncos assistant coach interviewed for head coaching opportunities in the offseason. One of them is the Buffalo Bills.

Later in the day, Broncos head coach Sean Payton confirmed that he was, in fact, handing over play-calling duties to Webber.
Payton became known in the NFL as a play-caller and continued to call plays as a head coach, first with the New Orleans Saints and then with the Denver Broncos.

“It’s something I’ve known throughout the year,” Payton said, ultimately noting that he realized it midway through the season.
