Sean McDermott plans to keep coaching, with seven other head-coaching jobs available

Sean McDermott probably won’t be out of work for long.

McDermott, who was fired as head coach of the Bills today, told his staff after his firing that he plans to continue coaching, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In addition to the Bills, there are currently seven teams with head coaching positions. McDermott could be a candidate for the Cardinals, Ravens, Browns, Raiders, Dolphins, Steelers or Titans.

Some of those teams may view McDermott as a quality candidate. Current betting odds show McDermott as the second-most likely candidate for the Steelers job behind Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

He made the playoffs in eight of his nine seasons as Bills head coach, going 98-50 in the regular season and 8-8 in the playoffs. That wasn’t enough to keep him in Buffalo, but there aren’t many coaches with that kind of track record. Now that McDermott is available, it’s easy to imagine him being at the top of some teams’ shortlists.
