Seahawks advance to NFC Championship Game with 41-6 rout of 49ers

Rashid Shaheed started the party in Seattle, and Kenneth Walker, DeMarcus Lawrence and Ernest Jones put out the lights for the 49ers.

The Seahawks easily defeated their NFC West rivals 41-6 to advance to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 2014. They will face the winner of Sunday’s game between the Rams and Bears.

Shahid returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown, and 49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro’s attempt didn’t slow the returner down one bit. It was Shahid’s third return touchdown since the Seahawks acquired him from New Orleans on Nov. 4.

At halftime, the Seahawks led 24-6, and after three quarters, the Seahawks led 34-6. Things were getting uglier before the Seahawks canceled the Dogs.

Walker scored three touchdowns on runs of 7, 15 and 6 yards and saw more snaps in the second quarter when Zach Charbonnet injured his knee. He rushed 19 times for 116 yards and had three catches for 29 yards.

The Seahawks defense, which ranks first in the NFL in scoring, limited the 49ers to six points and forced three turnovers and two sacks. Lawrence had a sack, two fumbles for loss and three tackles for loss, and Jones had six tackles for loss, a fumble for loss and an interception. Leonard Williams sacked Brock Purdy on fourth down.

The 49ers defeated the Eagles last Sunday and struggled on Saturday. Seattle earned its bye week last week with a 13-3 victory over the 49ers in Week 18. In Week 1, the 49ers defeated Seattle 17-13.

The Seahawks scored 17 points in the first quarter on Saturday.

The 49ers only punted once but turned the ball over three times on downs and turned the ball over three more times. The Seahawks had scoring drives of 44, 42, 80, 36, 47 and 37 yards, but they only outscored San Francisco 281 to 236.

Sam Darnold, who was sidelined with an oblique injury, went 12-of-17 for 124 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Kupp caught five passes for 60 yards and Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught three passes for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Without tight end George Kittle, Purdy went 15-for-27 for 140 yards, an interception and a fumble. He rushed for 37 yards five times. Christian McCaffrey, who was stabbed late in the first half, rushed 11 times for 35 yards and caught five passes for 39 yards.
