Baylor coach Scott Drew has enjoyed success in Waco for the past 23 years. When he initially signed on to take over the program, there were some key issues that needed to be addressed. Now with nearly 500 wins, his name has been linked to job openings at Kentucky, Louisville and now North Carolina.

Drew reportedly signed a 10-year contract extension after winning a national championship in 2021. He is also making $5.4 million this season and is expected to remain at that level for the life of his contract. That ranks him as the eighth-highest-paid coach in the country, according to USA TODAY Sports.

In the Big 12, Kansas’ Bill Self tops the list with $8.8 million per year. Arizona’s Tommy Lloyd recently received a contract extension, putting him among the three highest-paid coaches. The Wildcats coach’s annual salary of $5.2 million is slightly less than Drew’s, and now his salary has increased.

Multiple sources report that Drew will make $4.5 million in the 2024 coaching cycle. While Baylor has not officially released any information, the total is in line with the market. Other jobs have been linked to him, but so far nothing but smoke.

Nationally, Drew has mid-level acquisitions, which may be a major selling point for traditional power schools. That number currently ranks 50th among all college coaches and would be very affordable for any school looking to poach Drew.

What does the future hold for Drew?

For now, Drew has settled in in Waco and may need a change of scenery. This would be the perfect time to test the waters and see his value. While there aren’t many openings, it would be a win if the right guy comes along and increases his salary in the ACC or SEC. Not many coaches have been as successful as Drew over the past two decades.
