Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law, Tomasso Cioni, hasn’t been seen in a week, and police are searching the home of him and his wife (and Savannah’s sister) Annie Guthrie as part of the investigation into the abduction of Savannah and Annie’s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie.
When was the last picture of Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law?
Tommaso was last photographed on February 3, two days after Nancy disappeared in the middle of the night on February 1. Photos obtained by the Daily Mail show Tommaso and Anne in the car as they returned home to the Tucson, Arizona, area. The photo shows Tommaso sitting behind the wheel, wearing sunglasses and covering his face with a jacket. Annie was sitting in the driver’s seat, wearing a hood that also covered her face.

While Anne appeared in multiple social media videos posted by Savannah asking for help in the investigation into her mother’s disappearance, Tommaso understandably took a step back from the cameras after former NewsNation host Ashley Banfield reported that Tommaso “could” be the “prime suspect” in the investigation (which the Pima County Sheriff’s Department later denied).
“We have not identified a suspect or person of interest in this case. Detectives are continuing to speak with anyone who may have had contact with Mrs. Guthrie. We are also awaiting additional forensic results,” the department said in a statement to TMZ before responding to Banfield’s claims that Anne’s car was impounded. “We have no confirmation that the vehicle was impounded and we are not sure where this reporter got this information.”
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Annie was the last person to see Nancy before she disappeared. “We have a starting point,” Sheriff Chris Nanos told Us Weekly in a report published on February 4, adding that there were no “red flags” in Nancy’s behavior before she disappeared. “The family sent her home from dinner around 9:30 to 9:45. [p.m.]. So we would even start looking at 9 or 8:30 at night. “
Tommaso and Annie’s home has been investigated twice since Nancy disappeared. The first search was conducted on February 4 and again on February 7. TMZ reports that officers spent several hours at Anne and Tommaso’s home, filming multiple rooms, and the site claims an officer was seen entering the residence with a silver briefcase. “Latest news from Annie Guthrie’s home, investigators are still inside. They have been here for nearly 3 hours,” NewsNation reporter Brian Entin wrote on Twitter, along with a video of officers searching Annie’s home.
Annie, who lives about four miles from Nancy’s home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, was taken away in the middle of the night on January 31. Former CIA and FBI agent Tracy Wald told PEOPLE before searching Anne’s home that officials “may have asked for Anne’s permission” or obtained a search warrant, or both.
According to People magazine, authorities, including at least one officer from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, searched Anne’s home from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. local time. Two and a half hours into the search, one officer was seen leaving Anne’s home with a white suitcase and brown bag, while another officer was seen wearing blue gloves. “All the white boxes are evidence disposal tools. The brown bags are for evidence,” Wald told People.
According to the Daily Mail, police did not need Tommaso’s consent or a search warrant to search the house as long as Anne allowed it. Two U.S. Supreme Court cases have ruled that police can search shared homes, such as a matrimonial home, as long as one of the occupants is present and consents. If another resident is present when police arrive to conduct a search and refuses entry, law enforcement must return with a search warrant.
