San Jose, California – Investigators arrested 11 suspects, including a middle school vice principal, as part of a child exploitation operation in San Jose.
According to the San Jose Police Department, the operation was conducted to combat child exploitation and human trafficking in the lead-up to Super Bowl X. Between February 3 and 6, authorities arrested several suspects on charges of intending to meet minors for sexual activity.

The first arrests took place on February 3 and included 35-year-old Cesar Rodriguez-Vela and 25-year-old Jose Garcia-Hernandez. Also arrested that day was 31-year-old Ruben Guzman, the vice principal of Sunrise Middle School.
Authorities said Guzman communicated with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old boy. Despite knowing the child was underage, Guzman allegedly expressed a desire to have sex with the minor and offered money in exchange, police said. Guzman arranged to pick up the children in San Jose, but when he arrived, he was greeted by police.
He remains in custody.

Sunrise Middle School officials said they are fully cooperating with the investigation. The school said the charges against Guzman do not involve the campus or its students.
“Our top priority is the safety of our students. The individual was immediately removed from campus and will have no further contact with students,” said Teresa Robinson, principal of the school. “Since then, we have spoken to students in age-appropriate ways, communicated directly with families and provided counseling support on campus.”
Robinson added that there is currently no information that any Sunrise students were involved.
“While this is deeply disturbing, it does not reflect who we are as a school,” she said.

Over the next few days, police arrested eight traffic suspects. They are Nelson Mejia-Rivas, 36; Dexter Goudy, 72; Luis Medina de Leon, 36; Gonzalo Yesca, 25; Michael Valdeolivar, 42; Harjit Singh, 24; Joey Minh Truc Nguyen, 35; and Frank Wong, 58
All suspects are being held at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges including attempted lewd conduct with a minor and arranging to meet a minor for sexual purposes.
