A 16-year-old San Angelo student was arrested Tuesday after police seized a loaded firearm, according to a news release.
SAPD said in a media release that at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 2, San Angelo Police Department School Resource Officers were notified by San Angelo Independent School District administrators that a student on the Central High School campus was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
Resource officers responded immediately, detained the student involved and seized a loaded firearm, the release said.
“During the subsequent investigation, police learned that a 16-year-old student was in possession of a loaded firearm and pointed it at another student,” according to a news release. “The victim immediately reported the incident to school administrators.”

The 16-year-old was arrested, transported to the Juvenile Justice Center and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon in a prohibited location, police said.
“The San Angelo Police Department commends the prompt actions of the reporting student and school staff whose alert response allowed officers to quickly intervene and ensure the safety of the campus,” the release said.
