Sam Ryan, Liz Cho ring in New Year at NYRR Midnight Run in Central Park

Who needs champagne and confetti to welcome the New Year? More than 4,300 runners laced up their sneakers for the annual New York Road Runners Midnight Run in Central Park.

Two of the thousands of people who attended the ticketed event included our very own sports anchor Sam Ryan. She finished the four-mile race.

Eyewitness News anchor Liz Cho also ran with her daughter Lulu. It looked like they had a great time there.

This year’s race features a host of festive on-site entertainment to celebrate the New Year, including a sparkling cider station, DJs at the start, finish and course, and fluorescent race bibs creating a new midnight run glow tunnel experience.

Athletes enjoyed a front-row view of the dazzling fireworks display as they made their way through the park.

Congratulations to Liz, Sam and all the runners who took part.
