Police said Caraballo lost control of his vehicle due to wet roads and hit a large metal utility pole. Despite the life-saving efforts of emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead
on site. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision, according to the CHP. It’s unclear how fast he was driving.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is mourning Caraballo’s passing.

“Deputy Caraballo was a dedicated employee who proudly served our agency for 19 years,” SCSO said on social media. “Our hearts go out to Officer Caraballo’s family and we ask the public to keep Officer Caraballo’s loved ones and our Sheriff’s Office family in their prayers. Rest in peace, Officer Caraballo. You will not be forgotten.”
