Mumbai: Ahead of heading into IPL-2026, India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant conducted a few training sessions at the Indian Cricket Club in Mumbai last week under the watchful eyes of India’s 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh. Pant, who leads Lucknow Supergiants in the IPL, is struggling to regain form and revive his white-ball career after an ordinary IPL last year, scoring 269 runs in 14 games with a highest score of 118 not out at a strike rate of 133.16.
It was his lowest return in the game since his debut season in 2016. LSG are seventh in the standings due to their captain’s poor form.
“Rishabh is very focused on reviving his white-ball career, which is why he sought Yuvraj’s help ahead of IPL-2026. He underwent some three-to-four-day training with Yuvraj at the CCI in Mumbai before heading to the LSG training camp in Chennai,” a source tracking the developments told TOI.
In a training video that has garnered huge attention on social media, the wicketkeeper-batsman can be seen facing the delivery while the superstar left-hander is watching closely from the umpire’s position.
Pant has had a terrible season with LSG in IPL 2025
It’s worth noting that this training session arguably comes after a challenging season in the cash-rich league last term. Last year, Pant scored only 269 runs in the entire tournament. The bottom of the century helped improve the numbers, but the season as a whole was still underwhelming for a player known for his explosive hitting.
Pant was not part of India’s recent T20 World Cup-winning side and was the second-choice ‘wicketkeeper-batsman’ in ODIs after KL Rahul.
Yuvraj has been mentoring and training several young players in recent years and India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill, India T20 opener Abhishek Sharma and Kings XI Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh have all found success after taking his guidance. Yuvraj has even trained India’s T20 World Cup hero Sanju Samson. He has been coaching Pant for the past few years.
Pant, a feared batsman in the red-ball format, hopes Yuvraj’s guidance can help him turn around his fortunes ahead of the next IPL season. Perhaps he can seek inspiration from goalkeepers Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, both of whom recently starred in India’s T20 World Cup victory.
