Orange County, Florida – A Central Florida college student was arrested after a semiautomatic rifle was found in his dorm room.
Rollins College’s assistant director of campus security searched the student’s room after the ammunition was delivered to the residence hall, officials said.

Backstory
Officials said they discovered a rifle in Demtriades’ room after ammunition purchased online was transported to Rollins College and mailed to Demtriades. He admitted to purchasing the ammunition online and “did not believe it was illegal to possess ammunition on campus,” the report states.
Demtriades is a senior at Rollins College.
He shares a dormitory with three people but has his own bedroom.
An unloaded AR-15 gun was found under the bed on his left side, the arrest report states.
Police also found an unsecured black suitcase containing one loaded magazine and five empty magazines. A black safety vest, ear protectors, ear protectors and a handgun storage case were also found, police said.

Demtriades told police he shot as a hobby and said he had a valid conceal and carry license in New Jersey. Demtriades said he had just returned from New Jersey for Thanksgiving but returned to his dormitory late and attended a lecture at the school in the morning.
Demtriades told police he meant no harm. He told police his bedroom was always locked and he usually kept his gun at a friend’s house.
Demtriades said he only brought a gun to school once.
Rollins College responds
Rollins College said in a statement to FOX 35 that it received a report on Wednesday, December 3, that a student violated the college’s weapons policy.
“Upon receipt of this information, we immediately launched an investigation,” the statement said. “We quickly identified and contacted the student, who cooperated fully with college officials and local law enforcement as we further investigated the matter. The student has been arrested and is not allowed on campus while we continue our student conduct procedures.”

Demtriades was arrested without incident and transported to the Winter Park Police Department for booking.
