Ricochet’s first two tests as AEW National Champion proved successful, with victories at both the Ring of Honor Finals and “AEW Collision.”
Ricochet’s reign officially began on Friday night at Final Battle when ROH veteran Dalton Castle stepped up to challenge him for the newly won title. With the boys supporting him at ringside, Castle seemed to be on the verge of victory as he spun Ricochet and took him down with a Bang-A-Rang for a near fall. After a ricochet kick, both men rolled to the outside and the defending champion pushed one of the boys into the castle. Amid the chaos, Ricochet reentered the ring and lined up the Spirit Gun, which ultimately left Castle dazed and unable to kick out of the cover that Ricochet then won.

24 hours later, Ricochet defeated Ace Austin at “Collision” to retain the AEW National Championship. Austin put up a valiant fight, even knocking Ricochet down with a super combo and a nasty double stomp, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to escape the lariat and packing piledriver that greeted him.
Ricochet defeated 11 other competitors at AEW Full Gear and won the Casino Gauntlet match, cementing himself as the inaugural AEW National Champion. He later expressed interest in winning more championships in AEW, such as the Intercontinental Championship, Tag Team Championship, and Triplet Championship. Kris Statlander’s AEW Women’s World Championship is also on the cards. With this weekend’s consecutive victory, Ricochet has been the national champion for 15 days.
