Richard Hughes’ next GENIUS deal is in sight

Liverpool made some high-profile deals in the summer transfer window, with Richard Hughes ensuring the Reds secured the best deals for some of the world’s brightest talents.

The Reds’ sporting director will likely be settling into his new role in 2024 while doing his best to support the Dutchman as he slowly transitions to a new life in England, but he will certainly get to work in 2025, completing some outstanding transfers.

Youngsters with little experience of senior football were transferred for eye-watering fees, record-breaking Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak were persuaded to relocate and many players were given the overseas opportunities they wanted, with Slott opting for a slimmed-down first-team squad.

With the January transfer window just around the corner it’s time for the club to enter a new chapter and we could see Hughes pull off a genius deal with real intent to kick off 2026.

How Liverpool could satisfy Chiesa’s wishes

Despite the fans’ best wishes, Federico Chiesa seems unable to prove himself a valuable member of the squad by getting into Sloter’s right wing and playing a role in the team. Instead, he lived on scraps.

The 28-year-old scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in 492 minutes of playing time. There’s no doubt he’s talented and he’s determined to succeed at Liverpool because last season was a forgettable one – despite the Reds winning the Premier League.

But his weekly playing time and teammates’ struggles haven’t been enough for Sloter to regularly consider inserting the Italian into the starting lineup. It felt like he might need to leave.

Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Wolves last weekend showed how much impact players with pace can have on a defence, providing a different outlet when the Reds lack a bit of intent.

It has now been suggested that Hughes could agree a swap deal that would resolve both issues – Chiesa would benefit from new surroundings while Liverpool could upgrade the Italian.

All signs point to Yildiz

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa is still favored by his old club Juventus.

If Liverpool are willing to let him go, he will be on loan with an option to buy, although the Old Lady are also considering other targets at this stage so there are no guarantees.

But if they entertain the idea, then we could see the Reds trying to replace Chiesa with another attacker from Juventus, with 20-year-old winger Kenan Yildiz a long-term target.

According to Tuttosport, GiveMeSport’s latest update on the young striker cites another Italian report, with Liverpool not only targeting him but also calling him up adding extra urgency to his ongoing contract talks with Juventus.

Due to the player’s popularity in Europe, talks over a new contract have sprung up and it is understood that his contract until 2029 is insufficient under the existing wage package.

Liverpool have the potential to offer Chiesa and a one-off payment to Juventus to secure Yildiz and resolve the many issues Tigres still have. The Turkish player has proven he can be a difference-maker and the lack of energy in the Reds’ forward group is obvious for all to see.

Whether the Italian club would entertain such an offer is another matter and putting the plans into action wouldn’t be easy given all the touches, but it would be the type of genius deal we’ve seen orchestrated by Richard Hughes in the past. This is a distinct possibility.
