Reports: South Carolina QB LaNorris Sellers set to return to Gamecocks in 2026

LaNorris Sellers will return to South Carolina for a fourth season.

The preseason first-team All-SEC quarterback will return in 2026 according to Multiple reports. Sellers was viewed as a potential top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft before the season, but South Carolina struggled in 2025.

The Gamecocks finished with a 4-8 record as the offensive line struggled against an extremely tough schedule. Sellers completed 178 of 293 passes for 2,437 yards with just 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 games. He also rushed for just 270 yards and five touchdowns due to sacks.

A year ago, Sellers was a rising star in the SEC. In 2024, he completed 196 of 299 passes for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Thirteen of those touchdowns came in South Carolina’s final six games of the season.

He also rushed for 674 yards and seven scores. He finished the season rushing 16 times for 166 yards in the Gamecocks’ win over Clemson. It was South Carolina’s sixth straight win before losing to Illinois in the Citrus Bowl.

USC’s offense in the 2024 class is coordinated by Dowell Loggains, and the team’s success helped Loggains land the head coaching job at Appalachian State University. Coach Sean Beamer promoted Mike Shula to replace Los Gaines, but Shula didn’t even last the entire season.

Shula was fired nine games into the season when South Carolina was 3-6. Earlier this week, the school announced that longtime college football assistant Kendal Briles will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator and former Penn State running backs coach Stan Drayton will serve as assistant offensive head coach, as well as the team’s running backs coach.

Briles is the son of former Baylor coach Art Briles and has coached at five different schools since his father was fired in 2016. He served as offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic University, the University of Houston, Florida State University and the University of Arkansas before spending the past three seasons at TCU.
