Report Roma want to send Ferguson back to Brighton

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are preparing to terminate Evan Ferguson’s loan in January, but his early return still needs approval from Brighton.

“Evan Ferguson’s tenure at Roma is destined not to last long. Perhaps only four games remain before the transfer market opens,” Gazzetta dello Sport wrote on Tuesday.

According to Italian newspapers, Roma are disappointed with the striker’s performances and are keen to send him back to Brighton next month.

However, Roma’s desire alone is not enough as Brighton will also need to approve the termination of the loan deal.

Ferguson joined Roma on loan last summer, and the Serie A team has a purchase option of approximately 35 million euros.

Ferguson was expected to get more game time after Dov Beek was injured in recent weeks, but the Brighton loanee also suffered fitness issues with his ankle and never really settled under Gasperini.

He scored his first Serie A goal against Cremonese earlier this month, but it was his only goal in 14 games for Roma.

Brighton boss Fabian Huerzel has refused to rule out Ferguson’s return, especially following an injury to Stefanos Zimas.

Roma are willing to sign another centre-forward in the January transfer window, with Joshua Zirkzee (Manchester United), Youri Alberto (Corinthians) and Giacomo Raspadori (Atletico Madrid) already linked with moves to the Stadio Olimpico.
