Arsenal track Davide Barsajj, Milan monitor Premier League pressure
Arsenal’s recruitment model continues to combine patience with opportunism, with the latest reports out of Italy putting another emerging European talent firmly on their radar. Arsenal have been described as “crazy” to sign AC Milan’s 19-year-old left-back Davide Bartesaghi, whose rise this season has attracted attention across the Premier League, TeamTalk reported citing Gazzetta dello Sport.

This interest fits a familiar pattern. Arsenal invest heavily in affecting defenders in both penalty areas, a strategy that has been proven in their title campaign based on structure, aerial dominance and set-pieces. While some deride the practice, its effectiveness is indisputable.
Batsagi’s profile and tactical appeal
The appeal of Bad Saji is multifaceted. At 6-foot-5, he offers a rare physical profile for a modern full-back, especially comfortable operating at left-wing back. TeamTalk reports that he has “become a mainstay in the team” this season, which is a significant improvement for a teenager at a club like Milan.

His offensive contributions aren’t theoretical, either. Batsagi scored twice in Milan’s 2-2 draw with Sassuolo. Both goals were described as “clinical low left-foot shots.” This combination of height, timing and composure is entirely consistent with Arsenal’s emphasis on maximizing set-pieces and secondary scoring threats.
The report also highlights that “Arsenal in particular are making the most noise behind the scenes” with Milan increasingly aware of the financial imbalance between Serie A clubs and England’s elite.
Financial realities facing Milan
One sentence from the report reflects the wider tensions facing Italian clubs: “If a player they like appears on the radar, offers will be made, despite the myriad and understandable financial concerns Italian clubs have over transfers.” This context is important. Milan are in no rush to sell but are realistic about the pressure Premier League clubs face.

Batsagi signed a new contract in May, committing his future to Milan until 2030. As a local player just establishing himself, the advice is that he is “reluctant to leave anytime soon”.
Transfer timing and lineup logic
From Arsenal’s perspective, timing is everything. The team has lined up Ricardo Calafiore and Myles Lewis-Skelly at left back, with Piero Hincappi also capable of taking on the role. A move now would likely make Bartsagi a depth option, which would mean nothing for a player who is developing so quickly.
Likewise, procrastination carries risks. If Butsagi’s trajectory continues, so will his valuation. The challenge for Arsenal is deciding whether to act early or trust that patience will not set them up for failure later.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis
From an Arsenal fan’s perspective, this report is both exciting and cautious. Bartsagi is clearly a player tailor-made for the Premier League, physically dominant, tactically agile and already comfortable in high-pressure situations. His brace against Sassuolo showed confidence, not just potential.
That said, the current lineup balance is important. Arsenal have invested heavily in the development of young players and competition for places, and adding another young left-back now may hinder development rather than promote it. The club’s recent success has come from role clarity and orderly development, rather than hoarding talent.
There is also some appeal in allowing a player like Bart Sagi to mature outside of the Premier League spotlight. Another season or two at Milan, refining his defensive positioning and consistency, could make him a more complete option when Arsenal really need him.

The real concern is rising prices. Arsenal fans have seen goals lost due to hesitation before. If the recruiting team truly believes Bartsagi can be elite, it may be justified to take decisive action, even if it means a structured deal that delays arrival.
For now, this feels like smart surveillance rather than an imminent movement. Arsenal are watching closely, Milan are cautious and a young defender is firmly on his side.
