On paper, the Boston Red Sox have too many outfielders and not enough infielders.

That’s why Jalen Duran has been considered a trade candidate all offseason, and while no deal has been reached yet, it sounds like they’re still trying.
They might get a game if they call up the Houston Astros.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic thinks Tulane trading Isaac Paredes could help everyone involved.
“They are not close to a deal involving Tulane, but that could change during spring training,” Bowden wrote. “The Astros could be a good matchup because they don’t have an obvious spot for Isaac Paredes this season because they have Carlos Correa, and Houston needs an outfield upgrade. The Astros would also be a good option if the Red Sox decide to keep Duran and defer to (Weyer) Abreu.”

Paredes was a two-time All-Star who originally played for the Tampa Bay Rays.
On top of that, Paredes has some major league experience at both third and second base (although he’s not the greatest outfielder).
Boston currently has promising young player Marcelo Mayer to fill one of those two spots. Paredes could choose another.
The Red Sox may also DH Paredes at some point, as Tulane may already have a ticket for the position. But at least they’ll add infield flexibility they don’t have now.

Another fun part about Paredes? He pulled the ball as many times as anyone in baseball. Every home run he hits in 2025 has hit the guy’s side of the ballpark.
If placed in front of the Green Monster, he would be a very interesting right-handed hitter.
