“Red Dead Redemption 2” may be released on Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Rockstar Games’ critically acclaimed action-adventure game, which launched on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, will reportedly join a slew of third-party games slated to release on Nintendo’s new console in 2025. When the game releases on Switch 2, it’s also likely to be accompanied by the long-awaited next-gen upgrade for the game on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Red Dead Redemption 2 reportedly coming to Switch 2
The information comes from Gamereactor, which claimed in a report published on Friday that a Switch 2 port of Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming later this year. The publication also cited sources close to Rockstar as saying the game may eventually get a next-gen patch on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Reports suggest that the console upgrade may be released at the same time as the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, or it may be launched “at a later date.” Next-gen patches are likely to improve performance and visuals on current-gen consoles.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is still locked to 30 fps on consoles, and there are no native apps on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Fans of the game have long requested next-gen patches to improve performance on new hardware. The PC version of the game launched in 2019 with uncensored frame rates.
Rockstar Games and Nintendo have yet to comment on potential plans to bring Red Dead Redemption 2 to Switch 2.
Many popular third-party games have been confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, including “Star Wars: Desperados,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Hogwarts Legacy,” “Split Fiction,” “Elden Ring,” and more.
Developers and publishers have said they will support the development of the Switch 2 platform. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said last month that Microsoft would continue to support the new console with its first-party games. Rockstar parent company Take-Two has confirmed that four of its games will be coming to Nintendo’s new console – Civilization VII, Borderlands 4 and new WWE 2K and NBA 2K games.
