FC Barcelona has broken its silence through its sporting director Deco, hours after Xavi Alonso was sacked by arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Deco spoke on Cadena SER’s El Larguero program about Xavi Alonso’s departure from Real Madrid. The decision came 24 hours after Barca’s thrilling 3-2 Spanish Super Cup victory. Barca’s sporting director says the relentless media pressure and sky-high expectations surrounding football giants such as Real Madrid or FC Barcelona always make managerial roles more challenging. “Xavi Alonso’s job started well, he was not in charge for very long, but after the loss to their biggest rivals everything became complicated. I can’t say much because I’m not involved in their day-to-day management.” He admits.

Deco also highlighted the enormous pressure these clubs face in making decisions: “When you fail, you can’t make certain decisions. Sometimes you have to act quickly, even if it’s not ideal.”
