Ravens S Sanoussi Kane poached from practice squad

The Tennessee Titans signed safety Sanusi Cain from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad on Tuesday, according to NFL trade reports.

Kane, 24, appeared in the Ravens’ first six games of the season as a core contributor on special teams, taking just 12 snaps on defense. He was waived during Baltimore’s Week 7 bye and replaced by undrafted rookie Keondre Jackson, who impressed on special teams in his NFL debut in Week 6. The Ravens, perhaps concerned that Jackson might be snatched up by another team, signed him off the practice squad. Kane was quickly cleared off waivers and re-signed with the practice squad. He remained on the bench until being assigned special teams duties in Week 14 to fill the void after linebacker Chandler Martin suffered a season-ending ACL tear.

With Tavis Robinson and Adalius Washington returning in Week 15, the Ravens don’t need to promote Kane a second time. But Kane could have gotten more playing time on special teams after Teddye Buchanan tore his ACL. However, Baltimore may prefer having a third inside linebacker who can contribute on game days to the defense rather than a special teams safety like Cain.

Kane’s lack of a clear game-day role may have been the reason for his move to the Titans. While the Ravens will likely keep him for one or two more games, linebacker Jay Higgins’ return from injured reserve could quickly return Kane to the bench. Practice squad players can reject other teams’ 53-man rosters, but the Titans need immediate safety depth after placing three on injured reserve on Tuesday (per an article I wrote for Pro Football Rumors ). Kane will get immediate playing time on special teams and may even be integrated into the defense.

At Tennessee, Cain will reunite with former Ravens cornerback Jalin’Amour-Davis. He’ll also play under former Ravens defensive backs coach and current Titans defensive coordinator Denard Wilson, although the two didn’t overlap in Baltimore.
