September’s PlayStation Plus Game of the Month has been announced. Next month’s PS Plus lineup is led by Psychonauts 2, a mind-bending platformer from Double Fine. The first-party Xbox game lets players use psychic abilities to infiltrate the minds of others. PS Plus subscribers will also receive the critically acclaimed indie farm life simulator Stardew Valley and puzzle game Viewfinder for free in September.
All three games will be available to PS Plus subscribers on the Essential, Extra, and Deluxe/Premium tiers starting September 2. August’s PS Plus monthly games are still available on the subscription service. Members have until September 1st to add Lies of P, Day Z, and Heroes of Justice 2 to their library. Here’s a detailed look at the games coming to PS Plus next month:
Psychonauts 2
Released in 2021, Psychonauts 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to Psychonauts, the critically acclaimed platformer released in 2005 on PC, Xbox and PS2. Developed by Double Fine and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game brings back the original protagonist Raz, an acrobatic spy who can use superpowers such as telekinesis and levitation.
In Psychonauts 2, each level unfolds within the character’s consciousness, as Raz embarks on a mind-bending adventure to solve the character’s psychological problems. The levels themselves reflect the characters’ personalities and experiences. The game is played from a third-person perspective and involves platforming, puzzle solving, and combat. PS Plus members can play Psychonauts 2 on PS4, and on PS5 with backwards compatibility.
Stardew Valley
If you’re looking for a comfortable yet addictive farm life simulator that you can immerse yourself in for hundreds of hours, look no further than Stardew Valley. The game is nearly a decade old and has since been recognized as one of the best in the genre. It has also sold over 40 million copies and is played to death by players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. But if somehow you haven’t played Stardew Valley yet, you can play it for free with a PS Plus subscription starting September 2.
In Stardew Valley, players inherit their grandfather’s farm in the valley and slowly grow crops, raise animals, build buildings, and form a community. You can manage every aspect of your farm. You can even visit other people’s farms online. Stardew Valley is coming to PS4.
Viewfinder
Viewfinder, as the name suggests, is a puzzle video game that blends photography and perception. In the game, you solve puzzles by mapping images from photos, paintings, and drawings onto the game’s 3D world and transforming them.
The game features a variety of colorful environments, intuitive puzzles, and levels that require you to look carefully to uncover the mysteries. Viewfinder is available for PS4 and PS5.
