Pryce Sandfort scores career-high 33 points to lead No. 9 Nebraska past Penn State 87-64

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Price Sanford scored 20 of his career-high 33 points in the first half and made eight 3-pointers to lead No. 9 Nebraska to an 87-64 victory over Penn State on Saturday.

The Cornhuskers (23-4, 12-4 Big Ten) lost 57-52 to Iowa State on Tuesday and moved into third place in the conference with a dominant performance against a team at the bottom of the conference.

Sandford, who set the school single-season record for 3-pointers made against Iowa State, made his first five 3-pointers against the Nittany Lions and went 6-for-6 (11-17, 2-15). He made 8 of 14 shots from beyond the arc.

Sandford showed he’s more than just a perimeter threat when he snaked through two defenders for a layup to give the Huskers a 31-15 lead.

Brayden Frege scored 15 points and Sam Hoiberg had 11 points with a career-high 10 assists.

Penn State tried to beat a top-10 team on the road for the first time since 2009 but never gave itself a chance. The Nittany Lions committed 11 turnovers in the first half, many of them unforced, and shot 33% from the field while trailing by as many as 21 points. Midway through the second half, the Huskers led by 28 points.

Penn State’s Ivan Juric had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Kayden Mingo had 13 points and Josh Reed had 11 points.

The Huskers played without Berke Buyuktuncel, who missed the game due to illness. Frege is making his second career start.
