Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Remains “Deep” in Development, Says Ubisoft

Ubisoft has shared a brief update on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered, which is set to release in 2026. The game entered full production last year and is still in “deep” development, the company said. Ubisoft has yet to reveal details about the remaster, nor confirm its release date. During its fiscal 2025 earnings call in May, the company announced it was delaying its “biggest production,” but said the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was expected to launch this fiscal year, confirming that the game would launch before April 2026.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake still in development

“Yes, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and making sure the sand moves with purpose,” Ubisoft shared in an X post via the official Prince of Persia account on Monday. “This game is made by a team that truly cares about it, pouring their hearts (and lots of coffee) into it every step of the way. Thank you for sticking with us.”

Ubisoft also directed fans to try Prince of Persia, the roguelike platformer from Dead Cells developer Evil Empire that it released in early access last year. The game is slated for a full launch in August 2025.

“While behind-the-scenes development continues, there’s now another adventure waiting for you: Prince of Persia – fast, stylish, and built with the same dedication,” the company said.

The development update also comes with a new piece of art that shows off the ornate palace under a pink sky. Details about The Sands of Time Remastered are still scarce, as Ubisoft has been largely tight-lipped about the project, sharing few updates.

In May, the company confirmed during its fiscal 2025 earnings call that the game, along with a number of other projects, was on track to launch by April 2026, despite the company delaying some of its “biggest productions” following the release of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

The latest development update comes a year after Ubisoft confirmed that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered has completed pre-production and is entering full production. At the time, the company confirmed the game’s 2026 release window and released a trailer.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered was first announced at Ubisoft Forward in 2020, and has since endured a troubled development period with multiple delays. The game was initially handled by Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai, but later also changed hands and was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal in 2022. Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Bucharest, Ubisoft Pune and E-Studio also contributed to the development of the game.
