Late Friday afternoon, the park announced it was closing the rink because unseasonably warm temperatures were unsafe for skaters.

NewsCenter 7’s Malik Patterson said there was so much water they had to shut down.

Two people drove from Butler County to attend the Wizarding World Harry Potter event, but the event was canceled.

“Very disappointed,” Isaac Reed said. “I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and when he showed me it was like, we should do this. Neither of us had skated before. Perfect for a date night.”

Travis Stacy said they had heard about the rink and that it was the only themed rink in the area.

“I’ve always wanted to go skating, ice skating. Never had the chance,” Travis Stacey said.

A park employee told Patterson that the ice at the rink was more than two inches thick. He said there were too many wet spots to block and the ice was unstable for skaters.

Reed said he was disappointed with the warm weather and was hoping for some holiday spirit.

“I absolutely hate it,” he said. “I love snow. I’d rather have a white Christmas with a lot of snow on the ground.”

Crews told Patterson they would try to reopen the rink at 11 a.m. Saturday if the ice is safe.
