‘Potential security threat’ diverts Southwest flight from Nashville, passenger removed

Passengers flying from Nashville to Fort Lauderdale arrived at their destination in the early morning hours of March 7 due to a potential security threat.

Southwest Airlines Flight 2094 from Nashville International Airport to Fort Lauderdale was diverted to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Friday evening “in response to a possible safety issue,” a Southwest spokesman said.

“We appreciate the professionalism of our crew and sincerely apologize to our customers for the significant delay,” a Southwest spokesperson said. “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of our customers and employees.”

The Atlanta Police Department removed a passenger, Southwest Airlines reported.

A spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department noted that officers assisted federal partners with “last night’s incident” at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

It’s unclear why the passenger was taken away and whether they face any charges.

The remaining passengers boarded another plane and continued to Fort Lauderdale, arriving around 3:30 a.m., a Southwest spokesman said, adding that the airline had apologized for the incident.
