Things are not easy for the beer industry these days.
Breweries are facing difficulties due to fierce competition, higher labor and product costs, not to mention changing consumer attitudes towards drinking.
More than 250 breweries have closed in the United States in the first six months of 2025, with more to follow in the second half of the year.
One example of a brewery experiencing such problems is embattled craft brewery and beer brand 21 Locks Brewing Company, which closed its taproom, restaurant and facilities in early January as the company was unable to overcome financial difficulties.
The Morrisville-based brewery, which has a taproom, café and restaurant, released some bad news to the public on Dec. 31 via social media and its website.
The brewery’s message to customers is “closed indefinitely.” “This is not the message we want to send. After careful consideration, we are announcing that 21 Locks Brewing Company will be closing its doors.”
“Ultimately, despite our energy and determination to meet the challenges, we were unable to overcome them.
“That said, this place has become very meaningful to us in the short time we have owned it. 21 Locks was created around the simple idea of coffee, pizza, beer and is intended to be a welcoming space for our community to gather, connect and celebrate,” the message continued.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us this year: our guests, regulars, staff, musicians, vendors, neighbors and friends. Your encouragement, conversation and presence made every long day worth it.
“While our time was short, the memories and relationships will stay with us forever. Thank you for being a part of our story,” the post concluded.
