Police situation shuts down Interstate 670 on Columbus’ east side

Police said Interstate 670 on the east side of Columbus was closed for the death investigation.

A police dispatcher said officers received a call about an undisclosed incident at 10:16 a.m. on Dec. 19. A Columbus police spokesman said it appeared someone jumped from the overpass into the westbound lanes.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:23 a.m.

The interstate is closed from East Fifth Avenue to Leonard Avenue, according to a live traffic map maintained by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Traffic cameras showed heavy traffic in the area.

Police said at 11:30 a.m. they did not know when the highway would reopen.
