The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Denver Nuggets in a strange game. Maybe it shouldn’t have been this close, but a win is a win.
All levels are based on our typical expectations for each player.

Donovan Mitchell
33 Score, 5 assists, 6 rebounds
Mitchell was a flamethrower tonight. He scored 33 points on 24 shots, keeping Cleveland steady without making it feel like he was hijacking the offense.
grade: one–
Darius Garland
18 Score, 8 assists, 2 reboundss
In the first five minutes of the game, Garland made a three-pointer from the air, and then made a pass error and went out of bounds. That roughly summed up his performance, although it did improve as the night went on.

Evan Mobley
8 points, 11 reboundss, 4 assists, 3 pieces
Mobley could have had a more dominant night if he had been aggressive in the first half. He started the game with a couple of impressive plays around the rim, but started to fade away as the Nuggets attacked in the paint. That’s a credit to Denver for keeping Mobley out, but you hope Mobley finds more solutions.
Still, Mobley continues to reestablish himself as a world-class defender. He once again excelled defensively.
grade: Second
Craig Porter Jr.
10 points, 5 assists, 5 reboundss, 2 blocks, 2 steals
Porter changed the complexion of this game in the second half. He hit multiple 3-pointers and completed a comeback to help spark Cleveland’s rally. Porter, meanwhile, brings some much-needed energy on the defensive end.

grade: A+
De’Andre Hunter
16 points, 5 assists, 4 reboundss
It wasn’t a great defensive game for Hunter. But he made timely shots and helped seal the game on the boards. He also had 5 assists, which is also rare.
grade: Second
Jarrett Allen
8 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists
Alan isn’t as active as he used to be. The Nuggets worked hard to avoid giving him easy offensive opportunities. This win would have been easier if Allen had been stronger, but he did grab one of the biggest rebounds of the game late in the fourth quarter.
Still, Allen played a key role in stabilizing the Cleveland defense, which held the Nuggets within 11 points in the fourth quarter.

grade: Second
Jaylen Tyson
8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist
Tyson was showing off a bit in a china shop tonight. Normally, I would say that as a compliment. But in this case, it doesn’t look that pretty.
grade: C
Nyquawan Tomlin
6 points, 0 assists, 6 reboundss
Tomlin was guilty of making mistakes that created holes in Cleveland’s defense. Even so, he played so hard that he was able to make up for some of it with turnovers, rebounds and blocks. Sometimes intangibles are more valuable than having all the Xs and Os perfect.
grade: B+
Lonzo Ball
6 points, 0 assists, 6 reboundss
Ball returns to the rotation for the first time in two games tonight. His emergence was well-received, with two 3-pointers in the first half and a huge chase-down block on Jamal Murray in the fourth quarter.
