One of the biggest names still on the market is Bo Bichette, who for a while seemed determined to return to the Toronto Blue Jays. However, that was before his market skyrocketed, as other teams now view him as more than just a shortstop.

MLB insider Jon Morosi said: “It is confirmed that Beau Bichette has received interest from multiple teams that view him as a second or third baseman because they have an established shortstop on the roster. Further evidence that the World Series enhances his value in the market.”

The Philadelphia Phillies appear to be making a serious push for the power infielder. Bichette and the Phillies are scheduled to hold a virtual meeting on Monday.

“The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of ongoing negotiations, confirmed The Athletic’s report that the Phillies plan to hold a virtual meeting with Bichette on Monday, Jan. 12, to discuss the possibility of joining the Phillies,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote.

With all of this developing, Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson believes the Phillies are ready to sign Bichette, but first they’ll trade Alec Boehm.

“For months, it felt inevitable that Bo Bichette would return to the Toronto Blue Jays and play baseball with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for much of his career. Now, the door to an exit seems truly open. Bichette has popped up on the radar of the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs this month. Chicago is a team worth A team to watch because they just acquired a cost-controllable starter (Edward Cabrera) and have money to spend with Kyle Tucker. However, this feels like one of those moments when Philly takes a shot at one of MLB’s top free agents on a slow-moving market, and the Phillies announced the signing of Bichette shortly after,” Johnson wrote.

The Phillies have been weighing whether to trade Alec Bohm, but if Bo Bichette is the player to replace him, it’s clearly in the Phillies’ best interest to let Bohm go.

The Phillies are eager to get back to the World Series after losing to the Houston Astros a few years ago. Bichette’s landing would create a huge buzz for the organization and could greatly increase their championship chances.
