Penn State waiting on date for Blue-White Game

One of Penn State football’s most important traditions remains without a date.

Penn State football has not announced a date for the 2026 blue-and-white game. While it was confirmed yesterday that the Blue and White weekend will still take place, it remains to be seen when and if they will change things.

The April scrimmage would normally have a date decided in mid-December, but that was later delayed due to the transition between head coaches (Matt Campbell’s hiring was announced on Dec. 5).

“Penn State athletics plans to host Blue and White Weekend this spring, with specific dates still to be determined,” according to an athletic department spokesperson. “Due to recent coaching changes and the logistics involved in finalizing plans, this year’s announcement has been delayed.”

While the athletic department made it clear that there will even be some events celebrating Blue and White Weekend, they did not specify whether the announcement of dates would also include the announcement of games.

Blue-White Weekend is one of Penn State’s most cherished football traditions, providing fans, alumni and players a unique opportunity to visit campus and showcase what the team will look like as the season begins. Celebrations include a block party and player signings.

The first blue and white game was played in 1951 under coach Rip Engle. Only about 500 people attended the games at the time, but by the mid-1980s thousands were paying to watch.
